Claude Certifications: The Four Exams Compared

Anthropic offers four Claude certifications: Claude Certified Associate – Foundations (CCAO-F), Claude Certified Developer – Foundations (CCDV-F), Claude Certified Architect – Foundations (CCAR-F) and Claude Certified Architect – Professional (CCAR-P). Each is a proctored Pearson VUE exam with a 120-minute limit and a passing score of 720 on a 100–1,000 scale, and each credential is valid for 12 months. Right now you can register only if you work at a Claude Partner Network organization.

The architect exam's official code is CCAR-F (formerly shown on some sites as CCA-F). Everything below comes from Anthropic's exam guides, its Partner Academy pages and Pearson VUE, checked on September 25, 2026; the sources are listed at the end.

Fees are list prices in USD per attempt. Question counts, time limits and scores are from each exam guide (version 1.0, effective July 2026).

How much does the Claude certification cost?

Anthropic charges $99 for Associate, $125 for Developer – Foundations, $125 for Architect – Foundations and $175 for Architect – Professional. You pay per attempt, so a retake costs the full fee again.

Your company's partner tier changes that. Select, Preferred and Global Premier partners get 50% off at checkout, and Global Premier partners pay nothing for any exam through December 31, 2026. Renewing on time is free: a short non-proctored assessment on Anthropic Partner Academy. If a credential lapses, you retake the full exam at the full fee.

Older guides, ours included, quoted a lower price for the architect exam. The current list price is $125.

Is the Claude certification free?

No. The training is free and the exam isn't. Anthropic's Claude Academy has free courses, tutorials and use cases, and Partner Academy adds prep courses for each credential. The proctored exam costs $99–$175 unless your company is a Global Premier partner.

For the architect exam you can also practice here: SecuSpark has 550 practice questions across 25 practice exams, and 3 of those exams are free with no signup. Who can take the Claude certification exams?

Members of the Claude Partner Network. You register through Anthropic Partner Academy with a partner email address on a recognized company domain (personal addresses don't work), you must be at least 18, and the exams are in English only.

Joining the Partner Network is free for organizations, and Anthropic says any organization bringing Claude to market can apply. As of September 25, 2026, Anthropic's pages list no registration route for individuals outside a partner organization. If that's you, the free courses and the public exam guides still let you learn the blueprint now.

How hard is the Claude Certified Architect exam?

Hard if you haven't shipped anything with Claude. CCAR-F gives you 60 scenario-based questions in 120 minutes (about 2 minutes each), and you need 720 on a 100–1,000 scale to pass. Anthropic's guide recommends 6+ months building with the Claude API, Agent SDK, Claude Code and MCP.

The questions sit inside real production scenarios, such as a customer-support agent or a CI pipeline, so you're weighing trade-offs rather than recalling definitions. The cut score comes from a standard-setting study, not a curve, and Anthropic publishes no pass rate. See the full CCAR-F breakdown and a study plan.

Is the Claude certification worth it?

It's worth it if you work at a Claude partner or build on Claude for clients. Developer – Foundations, Architect – Foundations and Architect – Professional count toward your company's Partner Network tier; Associate doesn't. More than 36,000 consultants at over 1,300 organizations had earned one by July 23, 2026, so holding one is no longer rare.

Two limits to weigh before you pay: each credential lasts 12 months (on-time renewal is free), and you can't sit an exam without a partner employer. Fail one and you wait 14 days before the next attempt, longer after that.
