How Long Is the Security+ Exam?

The CompTIA Security+ SY0-701 exam lasts 90 minutes. That is the total time you have to complete up to 90 questions, including both multiple-choice and performance-based questions (PBQs).

There is no additional time for PBQs. The 90-minute clock starts as soon as you begin the exam, and it covers everything. If English is not your first language and you are testing in an English-speaking country, you may be eligible for a 30-minute time extension through CompTIA's accommodation request process.

Time management strategy matters. Experienced test-takers recommend spending no more than 60-75 seconds per multiple-choice question and saving 15-20 minutes for PBQs. If a question stumps you, flag it and move on. Practice exams that enforce a timer help you build the pacing instinct you need on exam day.
