Since launching SecuSpark, the most common request from our players has been simple: "Let me study with my friends." Starting today, you can. We are shipping Clans -- a full cooperative study system with weekly quests, boss raids, village building, real-time chat, and shared progress tracking. And alongside it, we are opening Founders pricing: $8.33/mo locked forever, limited to 50 spots. This is our biggest update yet. Let us walk through everything.

SecuSpark Goes Social: The Clan Update

Studying for a CompTIA certification is often a lonely grind. You wake up, answer practice questions, review explanations, and try to stay motivated week after week. Some people thrive in that environment. Most do not. Research consistently shows that accountability and social learning dramatically improve completion rates -- people who study in groups are more likely to finish what they started and retain what they learned.

That is exactly why we built the clan system. It adds structure, shared goals, and cooperative challenges to your study routine without turning SecuSpark into a social media platform. Everything in clans is designed around one principle: study together, get better together.

This is the biggest social feature we have ever shipped. If you liked how gamification makes studying fun, clans take that same energy and multiply it across a team. And if you have been looking for a study group for your Security+ prep, you just found one built directly into the platform.

Create or Join a Study Clan

A clan is a persistent study group with structure. You create one, give it a name and a tag (3-5 characters, like [SPARK] or [SEC+]), and invite your friends. Your clan tag appears everywhere -- on the leaderboard, in PvP matches, on battle results, and next to your name on the stats page. It becomes part of your identity on the platform.

Every clan has three roles:

  • Leader -- Full control. Creates the clan, manages settings, promotes officers, and has final say on everything.
  • Officer -- Configurable permissions. Leaders can grant officers the ability to manage quests, post announcements, approve join requests, pin chat messages, and view analytics. Mix and match permissions based on trust.
  • Member -- The backbone. Participates in quests, raids, chat, and contributes XP to the clan.

Finding a clan is easy. The clan browser lets you search public clans, sort by weekly XP or level or newest, and preview member counts before joining. If a clan is set to open, you can join instantly. If it requires approval, you send a join request that officers or the leader can accept.

You can also invite people directly with a shareable join link or email invites sent through the platform. Share the link in your Discord server, study group chat, or Reddit thread and people can join with one click.

Free vs. Pro Clans

Free accounts can create and join clans with up to 10 members at Town Hall level 1 -- perfect for small study groups. Pro members (including Founders) can upgrade their Town Hall through 5 levels, expanding capacity all the way to 25 members, unlocking officer role management, custom clan banners, and detailed analytics. If your group outgrows the free tier, upgrading one member to Pro unlocks the full experience for the entire clan.

When you create a new clan, you get a brief animated founding ceremony -- your slime character plants a flag, and the village campsite materializes around it. It is a small touch, but it makes the moment feel like the start of something.

Weekly Clan Quests: Structured Study Goals

Every Monday at midnight UTC, your clan receives 3 standard quests and 1 bonus quest. These are shared goals that the entire clan works toward together. Complete them to earn clan XP, village currency, and personal XP for every contributing member.

We designed 20 quest templates across four types, each targeting a different study behavior:

Volume Quests

"Knowledge Surge" -- Answer 300 questions as a clan

"Battle Frenzy" -- Win 50 battles across all members

"Speed Demons" -- Answer 100 questions with a speed bonus

Accuracy Quests

"Precision Strike" -- 3 members score 85%+ on a practice exam

"Domain Mastery" -- Average 90% in any single domain

"Flawless Victory" -- A member achieves a perfect exam score

Activity Quests

"Rally the Troops" -- 5 members complete at least 1 battle

"Full House" -- Every clan member logs in this week

"Consistent Effort" -- 3 members maintain a 3+ day streak

Domain Quests

"Network Watchers" -- Answer 50 Network Security questions

"Boss Slayers" -- Complete 10 dedicated boss raid battles

"Well-Rounded" -- Answer questions across all 3 certifications

Quest targets scale by clan size. A 3-person clan does not get the same "Answer 300 questions" target as a 15-person clan. Small clans (1-5 members) get targets scaled down to 50-60% of the base. Medium clans (6-10) hit the baseline. Large clans (11+) face 140-150% targets. This keeps quests challenging but achievable regardless of team size.

The bonus quest starts as a blurred mystery card. You cannot see what it is until your clan completes all 3 standard quests. Once revealed, the bonus quest offers double rewards -- quests like "Knowledge Avalanche" (answer 500 questions), "Elite Squad" (5 members score 90%+), or "Dragon Slayer" (defeat the weekly boss and hit all HP milestones). These are ambitious goals designed for clans that are already on a roll.

Officers can re-roll one quest per week for 50 village currency if the random selection does not fit your clan's study focus. And when a quest completes, the entire clan gets a confetti celebration with a breakdown of who contributed what.

Boss Raids: Fight Cybersecurity Threats Together

This is the feature we are most excited about. Every week, a massive cybersecurity-themed boss appears for your clan to fight together. There are 12 bosses in the rotation, and every clan on the platform faces the same boss each week:

Ransomware Golem

Difficulty: 1.0x

Phishing Phantom

Difficulty: 0.9x

DDoS Hydra

Difficulty: 1.2x

Firewall Breaker

Difficulty: 1.1x

Trojan Titan

Difficulty: 1.0x

Zero-Day Dragon

Difficulty: 1.4x

SQL Injector

Difficulty: 0.8x

Brute Force Bear

Difficulty: 1.0x

Rootkit Reaper

Difficulty: 1.1x

Botnet Behemoth

Difficulty: 1.3x

Man-in-the-Middle Mimic

Difficulty: 1.0x

Cryptojacker Crab

Difficulty: 0.9x

Boss difficulty ranges from 0.8x (SQL Injector, the entry-level boss) to 1.4x (Zero-Day Dragon, the hardest boss in the rotation). Higher difficulty means more HP to chew through and better rewards when you break through milestones.

How Damage Works

Your clan deals damage to the boss two ways:

  • Passive damage (1 per correct answer): Every time any clan member answers a question correctly in any mode -- practice exams, battles, flashcards -- the boss takes 1 point of damage. Just studying normally contributes to the raid.
  • Dedicated raid battles (5x damage): Jump into a dedicated raid battle and every correct answer deals 5 damage instead of 1. These are targeted study sessions with domain-weighted questions designed to hit the boss where it hurts.

Boss HP scales with your clan size. The base HP is 100, multiplied by member count and the boss difficulty rating. A 5-person clan facing the Ransomware Golem (1.0x difficulty) gets a 500 HP boss. That same clan facing the Zero-Day Dragon (1.4x difficulty) gets a 700 HP boss. The system keeps things proportional so small clans are never facing an impossible wall.

HP Milestones and Rewards

As your clan chips away at the boss, you hit reward milestones at 75%, 50%, and 25% remaining HP. Each milestone triggers a celebration and distributes rewards with increasing multipliers:

Milestone Reward Multiplier What You Get
75% HP 1.0x Clan XP + Village Currency + Personal XP
50% HP 1.5x Increased rewards across the board
25% HP 2.0x Double rewards for pushing through
Boss Defeated Full defeat bonus 80 clan XP + 50 village currency + 50 personal XP (scaled by difficulty)

The boss HP bar updates in real time across all clan members via Supabase Realtime. When your teammate answers a question and deals damage, you see the HP bar drop on your screen. A live damage log shows who is contributing and a running ranking of top damage dealers. It turns studying into a genuine team sport.

Loot Distribution

When the boss is defeated, loot is distributed based on each member's damage contribution. Top damage dealers get a rarity boost on their item drops -- the top 10% of contributors get a 3% rarity boost, top 25% get 2%, and top 50% get 1%. Everyone who participated gets at least baseline loot. The system rewards effort without punishing casual contributors.

Build Your Clan Village

This is where clans get visually interesting. Every clan has a village that grows as you upgrade buildings with village currency earned from quests and boss raids. There are 8 buildings, each upgradeable through 5 levels:

Town Hall

The heart of your village. Increases max members (10 at Lv1, up to 25 at Lv5). Gates all other building levels.

Lv5: Custom clan banner, clan cosmetics, 25 members

Library

XP bonus for all clan members. Starts at +2% and scales to +10% at level 5.

Lv5: +10% XP bonus, mastery tracking per domain

Training Ground

Quest-related bonuses. Unlocks quest re-roll at Lv2, scales quest progress bonus up to +8%.

Lv5: +8% quest progress bonus, bonus quest preview

Forge

Loot quality bonus. Starts at +1% luck and scales to +8%. Requires Town Hall Lv2 + Training Ground Lv2.

Lv5: +8% loot luck, legendary item chance from bosses

Arena

PvP bonuses. +1% ELO gain per win at Lv1, scaling to +5% at Lv5. Requires Town Hall Lv2 + Training Ground Lv2.

Lv5: +5% ELO gain bonus, season rank bonus

Market

Currency bonuses. +1% village currency at Lv1, scaling to +8%. Requires Town Hall Lv2.

Lv5: +8% currency bonus, trading post (coming soon)

Tavern

Social and chat features. Unlocks emoji reactions at Lv2, message pinning at Lv3, chat search at Lv4.

Lv5: Custom chat themes, chat polls

Beacon Tower

Boss raid enhancements. +2% raid damage at Lv2, boss weakness hints at Lv3. Requires Town Hall Lv3 + Forge Lv2.

Lv5: +8% raid damage bonus, boss spawn prediction

Buildings have a prerequisite tree. You cannot just rush the Beacon Tower for raid bonuses -- you need Town Hall at level 3 and the Forge at level 2 first. The Forge and Arena both require Town Hall Lv2 and Training Ground Lv2. This creates meaningful strategic decisions: do you invest in the Library for XP gains, or rush the Forge for better loot? No two clans will have the same upgrade path.

Upgrade costs scale exponentially in village currency: 100 for level 2, 300 for level 3, 700 for level 4, and 1,500 for level 5. Earning currency comes from quest completions (25 per quest), boss milestones (15 each), boss defeats (50 each), and a daily trickle of 2 currency per active member. Active clans can realistically reach level 3-4 buildings within a few weeks. Level 5 is a long-term investment that marks your clan as truly dedicated.

Village Tiers

As your total building levels increase, your village visually evolves through five tiers:

Campsite

Starting tier

Clearing

10+ total levels

Village

20+ total levels

Town

30+ total levels

Fortified City

38+ total levels

The visual difference between a Campsite and a Fortified City is dramatic. A brand-new clan sees a campfire, a couple of tents, and sparse terrain. A fully upgraded clan sees stone walls, glowing buildings, flags, and detailed structures filling the landscape. The village also has a day/night cycle -- the scene dims between 20:00 and 06:00 UTC, giving it a cozy nighttime atmosphere during late study sessions.

Active clan members appear as animated NPC characters walking around the village. Your slime heroes wander between buildings, idle near the tavern, and mill about the training ground. Up to 10 NPCs are visible at once, and they represent real clan members who have been active recently. It is a small detail that makes the village feel alive rather than static.

Real-Time Clan Chat and Announcements

Every clan has a built-in real-time chat powered by Supabase Realtime Broadcast. Messages appear instantly -- no page refreshes, no polling. You can send text messages up to 500 characters with full emoji support.

Officers and leaders can post announcements that stand out visually from normal messages and can be pinned (up to 3 pinned messages at a time). Use them for study schedules, quest strategies, or raid coordination.

The chat also includes an auto-generated activity feed that logs important clan events: "Alice completed the Domain Mastery quest," "Bob joined the clan," "The Ransomware Golem has been defeated!" These contextual updates keep everyone aware of clan progress without requiring anyone to manually post updates.

Your clan also gets an internal leaderboard that tracks weekly XP contributions from each member. The top three contributors get gold, silver, and bronze medal badges next to their name. It adds a friendly competitive layer within the team -- pushing each other to study more while working toward shared goals.

A notification bell in the header shows your unread message count so you never miss important clan updates, even when you are on other pages.

The Founder badge is a golden shield that appears next to your name on leaderboards, in the PvP arena, and in clan chat. It is a permanent mark that you were one of the first 50 people who believed in SecuSpark. The exclusive golden character skin transforms your slime from translucent green to translucent golden jelly with a warm inner glow. Both are Founder-exclusive and will never be available to anyone else.

Let us put the pricing in context. The free tier gives you 15 questions per day, 5 AI explanations, 2 ghost battles, 1 arena match, and 1 tournament attempt. That is enough to get a feel for the platform, but it is not enough for serious exam prep. Founders removes every limit. For the price of two coffees a month, you get unlimited access to everything -- 1,514 practice questions, AI explanations on every single one, the full PvP system, all clan features, and every tool we build going forward.

The regular price after Founders spots are filled will be $16.33/mo ($49/quarter). Founders pay half that, locked in for life. Even as we add new certifications, performance-based questions, advanced AI tutoring, and more -- your price stays at $24.99/quarter. That is the deal.

Founders Week: March 9-16

To celebrate the launch, we are running Founders Week from March 9 through March 16. During this week, every user gets full premium access for free. All daily limits are lifted. Try unlimited questions, AI explanations, arena matches, and everything else that premium offers. No credit card required. No catch.

After Founders Week ends, free accounts return to daily limits (15 questions, 5 AI explanations, 2 ghost battles, 1 arena match, 1 tournament attempt, 50 flashcard reviews). If you claimed a Founders spot during the week, nothing changes for you -- you keep unlimited access at $8.33/mo forever.

Victory Cards: Share Your Achievements

We also shipped Victory Cards -- shareable achievement images that you earn for major accomplishments. Each card generates a dynamic 1200x630 image optimized for social sharing on LinkedIn, X/Twitter, and Discord.

You earn Victory Cards for:

  • Boss clear -- Defeat a raid boss with 2 or more stars
  • High exam score -- Score 90%+ on a practice exam
  • Streak milestones -- Reach 7, 30, 100, or 365 consecutive study days
  • League rank-ups -- Get promoted to a higher league tier
  • Leaderboard top 3 -- Finish in the top 3 of your weekly league
  • Clan raid MVP -- Be the top damage dealer in a boss raid
  • Campaign completion -- Clear an entire campaign chapter

When you share a Victory Card and someone signs up through your link, you earn cosmetic rewards through the referral system. Get 1 referral and earn the "Mentor" title. 3 referrals unlock the "Community Champion" profile frame. 5 referrals get you a custom clan banner. 10 referrals earn the "Viral Legend" title. These are cosmetic rewards only -- we are not doing referral discounts or affiliate programs. Just bragging rights for helping grow the community.
