The CompTIA Network+ (N10-009) passing score is 720 out of 900 — roughly 80%. That's a notch below Security+'s 750, which makes Network+ one of the more forgiving CompTIA exams on paper. But a lower threshold doesn't mean an easy exam: N10-009 is broad, and two of its five domains are troubleshooting-heavy. Here's what 720 actually requires.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Passing score | 720 / 900 |
| Approximate % | ~80% correct |
| Total questions | Up to 90 |
| Time limit | 90 minutes |
| Question types | Multiple choice + performance-based (PBQ) |
| Domains | 5 |
| Exam code | N10-009 |
| Exam cost | ~$369 (2026) |
How Is the Network+ Exam Scored?
CompTIA uses a scaled scoring system from 100 to 900. Your raw number correct is converted onto that scale, so questions aren't all weighted equally — performance-based questions (subnetting, cable/port identification, configuration tasks) likely count for more than a single multiple-choice item.
CompTIA doesn't publish the exact conversion, so "~80%" is an approximation of the 720/900 line, not a hard raw-score cutoff. Aim comfortably above it. Exam cost changes periodically — see the full CompTIA exam cost breakdown for current voucher pricing and discounts.
Network+ N10-009 Domain Weights
N10-009 spreads across five domains, with fundamentals and troubleshooting carrying the most weight — Networking Concepts and Network Troubleshooting are tied at 23% each:
| Domain | Weight | ~Questions (of 90) |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 Networking Concepts | 23% | ~21 |
| 2.0 Network Implementation | 19% | ~17 |
| 3.0 Network Operations | 16% | ~14 |
| 4.0 Network Security | 19% | ~17 |
| 5.0 Network Troubleshooting | 23% | ~21 |
Nearly half the exam (46%) is Networking Concepts plus Network Troubleshooting, so master the OSI model, ports/protocols, and a structured troubleshooting method first. For the full sub-objective list, see the Network+ N10-009 exam objectives and the Network+ acronyms glossary.
How Many Questions Can You Miss?
With up to 90 questions and an ~80% threshold, you need roughly 72 correct — a miss budget of about 18 questions. That's a little more breathing room than Security+, but PBQs and scaled scoring mean the real margin depends on which questions you miss. Ports, protocols, and subnetting show up everywhere, so weak fundamentals cost you across multiple domains.
How to Know You're Ready
- Score 85%+ on at least 3 full-length practice exams — the extra margin covers exam-day nerves.
- No domain below 75% — check your per-domain scores, not just the overall.
- Subnetting on demand — you can subnet and identify ports/protocols without a reference sheet.
- PBQ comfort — you've practiced configuration and troubleshooting scenario questions.
- Timed conditions — you've finished a full 90-question exam inside 90 minutes.
